Every working dog owner knows the situation.

You're at a shoot, a training ground, a game fair - somewhere you can't bring the dog in. You leave her in the back of the pickup. It's not blazing hot, but it's warmer than you'd like, and you're half a field away thinking about it.

A vent lock won't solve everything. I'll be straight about that. No bit of kit is a substitute for common sense, and if it's a warm day you shouldn't be leaving a dog in the car full stop. But on a cooler day, at a show, at a training session - when you need to step away briefly and the air in the boot is getting stale - this is what I use.

The AK-9 Vent Lock fits between the boot lid and the boot lock. Holds it open just enough to get air moving through. Crack a sunroof or a side window a little at the same time and you've got proper airflow - warm air rising out, cooler air drawing in through the back. It works. It's solid. And it fits 99% of vehicles, which is about as close to universal as you're going to get.

Four sizes - 2in, 5in, 8in and 12in. The small gives you a modest gap on cooler days. The extra large opens it right up when conditions call for it. I'd say most people working a dog out of an estate or a 4x4 go for the large or extra large, but your car and your conditions are your call. Works on 4-wheel-drive rear doors too, not just standard boot lids.
