They're warm enough, they're cheap, and by lunchtime on a cold day you're pulling at the rim because the synthetic fibres have been scratching at your forehead since the first drive. Merino wool doesn't do that. It's a finer fibre than standard wool, sits flat against skin rather than prickling, and regulates temperature properly - warm when you're standing at the peg, not overheating when you're walking between drives.

This one is 50% Merino wool blended with nylon and acrylic - the nylon adds durability so the knit holds its shape across a season rather than sagging at the crown, the acrylic keeps the price where it should be for a field hat. Cable knit construction throughout. The hem folds back for extra coverage around the ears and forehead when it's properly cold. One size fits most, and the fit is close rather than baggy - sits where you put it rather than riding up.

Suede JP logo on the front. Understated. It looks like a proper country hat because it is one.

Available in Barley, Brown, and Green - all three work with wax, tweed, and shooting kit without asking anything of the rest of the outfit. Barley is the warm neutral, Brown is the classic, Green disappears into the field.
